This event was hosted by Jeannie & John at their home in Soyland near Halifax.

After what had been a cold, wet and windy week, we were blessed with a bright and breezy day.

The N.R.G. Committee had put together a full, informative and fun programme.

This event was the first on the N.R.G. calendar and, with lambing over, it was a really good opportunity to catch up with old friends and to welcome new. More than forty adults plus thirteen young people had travelled from across the region to attend, including two who had come from Southern Ireland.

It was a delight to see so many enthusiastic young people eager to get involved in various events; including a “sheep making” competition and halter training & ring etiquette. After lunch this was put into practice in young handler classes - showing the lambs they had trained in the morning. What a joy it was to watch the young shepherds of the future having great fun with sheep whilst learning.

The fleece trimming and hoof trimming demonstrations were really well received, as was the preparation of a fleece for showing. Guess the weight of Tabasco the ram went down really well; Again, fun while learning. As always, the raffle was a great success.

I think everyone will agree it was a great day

Thankyou Jeannie & John for making us all so welcome and thankyou to NRG members and committee for making the Stockmanship Day an excellent event.

Pam. (Northern Ryeland Group Show Sec.)

P.S. Look forward to seeing you all at the Baa.B.Q. on June 7th.
